The kitchen project is mostly finished and we’re letting the last bit of it evolve slowly as we get used to this new space. I finally convinced the boys the loveseat by the fireplace had to go and I needed a farm table instead. Joe built me one with a butcher block top and it’s been in full use since he finished the top in late July – still need to paint the legs once garden season slows down. What a joy it has been to use it for overflow of farm produce!

Freshly painted white floor. Some days I have no idea what I was thinking when I chose this color for a house with three big dogs – ha! – but each morning when the whole cabin glows with sunlight, I decide it was the right choice again. I actually love the weathered look of chipped painted floors with different colors coming through – that’s exactly what these soft pine floors will look like in a year or two.

We love the new counter and how much bigger the kitchen feels – we can easily have two totally different tasks going on in the kitchen now – which happens A LOT this time of year when I’m processing and preserving all the garden bounty. Had a good time with the label machine labeling all those spices and pantry goods in glass jars.

You can see some before photos here. We still have some finishing touches to add here and there, but inside projects have to wait for winter. The weather will push us inside before we know it.
