We loaded up the truck and drove through the Adirondacks to drop off our boy. It was both easier and harder than I expected. Joe and I drove for a full 20 minutes in silence afterwards. Both in tears. He’s a super capable + driven young human and he will be totally fine, but oh! That last one leaving the nest is really something. Ooof.
I told myself earlier this summer I would be mindful about what filled the space left after 29 years of full time motherhood. (29 y’all!) I’m not sure what any of this will look like in the coming months, can we eat dinner at 4, go to bed at 9? How do you cook for just two people? Where did all these spoons and coffee mugs come from? What do I want to do now that I’m mostly just me. Who the heck am I?
Some days are easy and light and some days I miss the bustle and excitement. I think it will probably be like that forever.
I’m grateful for the anchor of endless homestead chores and the animals that depend on me. Slowly + softly moving into what’s to come…
