I’m still trying to get into a rhythm of writing posts when the farm is SO busy. May brought us lots of wild animal visits, prom for our youngest, graduation for our son-in-law, a lovely hidden garden tour in Troy with my girl, and ALLLLLL the spring farm chores between way too much rain…..

Hey look, it’s us. Somehow we all wore green to Chad’s graduation. Ha!

Speaking of green…… the canopy is filling back in.

Hidden garden tour in Troy with my Jade. It was rainy, but we still had the BEST time. I took a zillion pictures of plants and I have fresh ideas for my own garden. I’ve never taken a garden tour before and this is definitely the first of many for me. I love seeing all the different ways people care for plants and create spaces.

We’ve had a warm and rainy spring and most of my perennials are 1-2 weeks ahead of past years. (I’ve been begging those peonies to slow down and wait for Sophie’s arrival in mid June, eek!) Everything in the hoop house is bolting, time to pull up what’s left and get some warm weather plants in. I’m trialing tomatoes and peppers in and out of the hoop house this year. Gardening is perfect for grown-up science nerds in this way.

The great dahlia experiment – I started this half of tubers a full month before the last frost date. I would move them all inside if the night time temps were to dip below 38 (luckily they didn’t). Should have moved the gas can, but I don’t have that kind of time* in the spring. (*moving crap to make pictures pretty) I didn’t expect the tubers to overwinter so well in the crawl space and I have 60 dahlias in pots now. Still not sure where they’re all going, but it’s a good “problem” to have.

Lastly, this. I will forever be wandering around the farm snapping little vignettes of flowers in bloom. Swoon.
